A highly attractive example of the transitional Rolex Submariner Date reference 168000, dating from circa 1986 and featuring the desirable combination of a beautifully aged tritium dial and classic vintage proportions. The case is in excellent condition and has just returned from being professionally polished, retaining strong and well-defined lines. Both the reference and serial numbers between the lugs remain crisp and clearly legible, with a 9636XXX serial number. The dial is particularly appealing, with its white-gold surrounds in excellent condition and tritium hour markers that have developed a beautiful warm orange patina, perfectly complemented by matching tritium hands. The surface of the dial is gradually turning matte and has begun to develop a very subtle spider effect, giving the watch additional character. The service bezel insert remains in good condition overall, showing only a small wear mark around the 9 o’clock position. The watch is fitted with a Rolex Oyster bracelet featuring a reference 93150 clasp with V6 clasp code, reference 7860 links and 501B end links. The movement has just been fully serviced by our watchmaker and is running very well. A beautiful and charismatic example of the short-lived reference 168000, combining the robustness of the later Submariner generation with the unmistakable charm and patina of a vintage tritium Rolex.
