The present Rolex Submariner reference 6205, bearing the serial number 86068 and dating to 1955, is an exceptionally rare and historically important example of one of the earliest Submariner references ever produced. Manufactured in a total production of approximately 810 pieces, the reference 6205 stands among the most elusive and desirable vintage Rolex sports watches. The stainless-steel case has been very lightly polished in the past and remains notably thick and well preserved, retaining strong proportions and attractive, well-defined chamfers. The serial and reference numbers between the lugs remain deep and clearly legible, further attesting to the integrity of the case. The caseback is correctly stamped “6205,” consistent with production of this reference. The watch is fitted with its original radium dial, which has been tested with a Geiger counter and remains remarkably attractive for its age. The dial displays a beautiful and even yellow-orange patina, lending the watch tremendous warmth and character. The original radium hands match the dial perfectly, creating a harmonious and fully coherent appearance. The original “no hash” bezel insert is also present and preserved, showing surface scratches consistent with age and use, and has aged gracefully to a subtle violet hue—an especially desirable trait among early Submariner collectors. The watch is accompanied by its original riveted Oyster bracelet with 65 endlinks, which shows very little stretch considering its age. The clasp is stamped “2.55,” correctly corresponding to early 1955 production. Mechanically and aesthetically, the watch presents as an honest, well-preserved survivor from Rolex’s pioneering dive watch era. With its rare reference, original radium dial and hands, correct early bezel, strong case, and original bracelet, this Submariner 6205 represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of the foundational models in Rolex sports watch history—an extraordinarily scarce and highly collectible piece of the utmost importance.
