The present Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 1665 “Double Red”, offered with its original box and papers, is a highly attractive example of one of the most iconic professional dive watches ever produced. Bearing serial 5057XXX, corresponding to production in 1977, the watch was originally sold in February 1978 in Amsterdam. The stainless-steel case is preserved in very good overall condition, having been polished in the past and now showing light wear consistent with careful use. The proportions remain strong and well balanced, and importantly the reference and serial numbers between the lugs remain crisp and well defined, confirming the integrity of the case. The watch features a particularly attractive Mk4 “Double Red” dial, preserved in excellent overall condition. The tritium hour markers have developed a beautiful vanilla-coloured patina, while the hands match well, creating a harmonious and appealing vintage appearance. The original bezel insert has faded attractively to a denim-blue tone, a characteristic highly appreciated by collectors. There is, however, a small mark between 35 and 40 on the bezel insert, a minor imperfection consistent with the age and use of the watch. The watch is fitted with a service plexiglass crystal, installed during a past maintenance intervention. The caseback is correctly stamped 1665, and the serial number is engraved inside the caseback, appearing to have been re-engraved at some point during the watch’s lifetime. The original Oyster bracelet reference 93150 with 585 endlinks is preserved in excellent condition and shows very little stretch. The clasp does not display a date or clasp code, which is commonly encountered on bracelets from the 1970s. Accompanying the watch is its original punched warranty, along with the original leather warranty holder, forming a highly desirable and increasingly rare ensemble. While no service history is available, the movement is running well at the time of cataloguing. Combining a beautiful Mk4 dial, attractive faded bezel, strong case, and original documentation, this Double Red Sea-Dweller 1665 represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a classic and historically important vintage Rolex dive watch with strong character and collector appeal.
