Presented here is a highly attractive vintage example of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak reference 5402ST, bearing an A-series serial (A15XX). As one of the earliest generations of Gérald Genta’s groundbreaking design, the 5402 represents a cornerstone in the history of modern luxury sports watches. The stainless steel case has been recently polished and presents in very good overall condition, retaining the sharp architectural lines that define the Royal Oak aesthetic. The watch is distinguished by a beautiful tropical dial that has aged to an exceptional caramel tone, giving the piece a particularly warm and desirable vintage character. The dial’s patina is both even and visually striking, making this example especially appealing to collectors. The watch is fitted with service hands and a service crown, while retaining its original date disk. The integrated stainless steel bracelet is original to the watch and shows only very light stretch from use, and is completed by its original clasp. Accompanied by an extract from the Audemars Piguet archives dated October 31, 1980, this example provides documented provenance. Based on the serial number, the production of the watch is believed to date to approximately 1975. A compelling opportunity to acquire an early Royal Oak 5402ST with a superb tropical dial, combining historical importance, strong originality, and highly desirable vintage character.
