Rolex
Pre-Daytona 6238 Black Dial From 1965

REF: 6238

CHF 200'000 .-

An outstanding example of the legendary Rolex Pre-Daytona reference 6238, fitted with a rare black matte dial with silver printing. This watch comes from an important French collector who owned it for the past 15 years. The case is in superb condition — thick, sharp, and very well preserved — showing extremely light signs of polishing, if any. The reference and serial numbers between the lugs are perfectly crisp and look nearly new, indicating very little wear throughout its life. The steel bezel remains perfectly flat with its original shape, and both the plexiglass crystal and crown are original. The original black matte dial with silver printing is exceptional. The luminous plots are intact, with slight degradation at 2 and 3 o’clock — a very common and honest trait for early Rolex chronographs of this era, confirming the dial has not been relumed. The original hands match perfectly. It is fitted with a folded 7835 Oyster bracelet with the rare 71N endlinks, slightly stretched but in very good condition, dated 4.67. The caliber 722 movement is clean and has been checked by our watchmaker. It features the “ROW” engraving, indicating it was originally delivered to the U.S. market. The caseback is correctly stamped 6238 and bears two Rolex Paris service engravings from 1996 and 2000. A superb, rare, and honest example of the black-dial 6238 Pre-Daytona — among the most sought-after vintage Rolex chronographs, combining excellent condition, collector provenance, and originality.
