The present Patek Philippe Nautilus reference 3700/1, dating to 1978, is a superb and highly attractive example of Gérald Genta’s most iconic sports watch, preserved in outstanding overall condition and representing a particularly high-quality specimen of this landmark reference. The stainless-steel case has been very lightly polished in the past and now shows only light wear consistent with careful use. Importantly, the bezel remains well defined, symmetrical, and sharp, retaining its original geometry and crisp edges—an essential characteristic for discerning collectors of early Nautilus models. The watch is fitted with the highly desirable “large” integrated bracelet, preserved in excellent condition with very little stretch. Notably, the bracelet is sufficiently tight that the watch can stand upright when placed on its clasp, a strong indicator of exceptional bracelet integrity. The clasp is original and correct for the period. The original Mk II dial is truly outstanding, displaying a deep and vibrant navy blue tone with remarkable richness and freshness. The hands match perfectly, creating a harmonious and coherent aesthetic. The original date disc is also present, further underscoring the originality and quality of this example. The watch is accompanied by an Extract from the Archives, confirming production in 1978 and original sale in June 1980, adding important historical documentation and further strengthening the provenance of the piece. Altogether, this Nautilus 3700 Mk II stands out as a particularly high-grade example, combining a strong case, exceptional bracelet condition, a sublime original dial, and confirmed archival documentation. A watch of this quality represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most important and collectible sports watches of the 20th century in truly outstanding condition.
