Rolex Explorer II “Freccione” 1655 MKV, from 1978 (Serial 5.87XXXX). A beautiful example of the iconic Rolex Explorer II 1655 “Freccione,” featuring the desirable MKV dial. The stainless steel case has been polished in the past but remains thick with well-preserved, symmetrical chamfers. The matte black dial is superb, showing no visible defects. The tritium hour markers have developed a lovely warm vanilla patina, and the matching hands show slight aging and wear consistent with the watch’s age. The bezel retains its original satin finish, and the engraved black numerals are sharp and fully intact. The Oyster 78360 bracelet with 580 endlinks is in excellent condition with minimal stretch. Claspcode VF. Serial numbers between the lugs are crisp and fully legible. The caseback is correctly stamped 1655, and the caliber 1570 movement has been checked by our watchmaker. A very attractive and honest example of the Explorer II 1655 MKV “Freccione,” combining a strong case, a beautifully patinated dial, and overall excellent vintage condition.
