A superb example of the iconic Rolex Daytona 6265 “Big Red”, produced in 1979 (serial 622XXXX), accompanied by an exceptional and complete set, including original box and outer box, booklets, calendar, 2015 Rolex service card, serialized hang tag, original papers (sold in Bermuda in 1984), and a full restoration dossier from Rolex (performed in 2025 at a cost of USD 17,000). The stainless-steel case remains thick, sharp, and even, having been lightly buffed by Rolex’s restoration department, and shows only minimal wear. The steel bezel has also been lightly refinished by Rolex and is in excellent condition with very light signs of use. The original silver “Big Red” dial is in excellent condition, with matching hands. As is common for these vintage Daytonas, the lume plots at 1, 2 and 3 o’clock have partial loss of material, while the remaining plots are almost entirely intact, leaving the dial extremely attractive and fully correct (please refer to the photos for detailed condition). The watch retains its correct pushers, as expected for a late-70s 6265. The watch is fitted with an excellent 78350 Oyster bracelet with 571 endlinks, showing only light stretch consistent with careful wear. The clasp is stamped with a 1983 datecode. The caseback is engraved “II ERC 12-24-1984”, matching the date on the original warranty papers — strongly suggesting that this watch was given as a Christmas gift at the time. A highly desirable and investment-grade example of the Daytona 6265 “Big Red,” elevated by an extraordinary full set and a recent, official Rolex restoration — a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic vintage Daytonas in truly outstanding condition.
