An exceptionally well-preserved and extremely rare example of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6241, produced in 1968 and fitted with the coveted black “Big Logo” dial. The dial is in remarkable condition, with only a microscopic mark inside the 3 o’clock subdial, visible under magnification but not to the naked eye. The luminous plots at 3 and 9 o’clock are partially missing — a common and reassuring trait for untouched Daytona dials of this era, confirming that the lume has never been redone. The hands are perfectly matching and in superb condition; under UV light, all luminous material (dial and hands) glows briefly and fades uniformly, exactly as correct vintage tritium should. The original Mark 1 bakelite bezel is outstanding — free of cracks, chips, or notable wear, which is extraordinarily rare for a 1960s Daytona. The stainless-steel case is in extraordinary condition, appearing unpolished; if it was ever polished, it was done with extreme restraint. The serial and reference numbers between the lugs are deep, crisp, and perfectly legible, confirming a beautifully preserved case. The caseback is correctly stamped 6241 and displays two Rolex Geneva service engravings, a very positive sign of proper historical maintenance. Inside, the Valjoux-based Rolex caliber 722 is clean, functioning perfectly, and has been checked by our watchmaker. The watch is fitted with a riveted 7205 bracelet with 60 endlinks, showing very minimal stretch for its age. The clasp is stamped 1.67, consistent with the period. We handle many vintage Daytonas, but this example stands out dramatically. Its combination of pump pushers, black non–Paul Newman Big Logo dial, and mint MK1 bakelite bezel makes it one of the most elegant and desirable vintage chronographs ever produced — a reference 6241 in truly remarkable collector condition.
