Rolex
Day-Date 1803 WG Gilt Dial Box/Papers 1975

REF: 1803/9

The present Rolex Day-Date reference 1803, executed in 18K white gold and offered with its original box and papers, is an exceptionally rare and intriguing example dating to the early 1970s. Bearing serial 3.65XXXX, corresponding to production in 1972, the watch was originally sold in Argentina in 1975, giving it attractive and unusual South American provenance. The watch is fitted with a particularly striking black glossy gilt dial, preserved in outstanding condition. All luminous plots remain intact, and the original hands match beautifully, creating a harmonious and highly attractive appearance. Although gilt dials are typically associated with earlier production, similar examples have appeared on comparable watches, suggesting that this configuration is very likely original to the piece. The day display features a Spanish day disc, further reflecting its South American point of sale. The watch is also fitted with its original white-gold President bracelet manufactured for the South American market, a detail rarely encountered. These bracelets were produced locally and typically do not carry clasp codes or date stamps, which is consistent with this example. The bracelet shows some stretch, entirely normal given its age. Overall, the watch presents as a rare and characterful example of the classic Day-Date, combining an unusual gilt dial configuration, Spanish calendar disc, and original South American bracelet. Accompanied by its original box and papers, this reference 1803 represents a highly compelling opportunity for collectors seeking an uncommon and historically interesting variation of Rolex’s flagship model.
