REF: 530
Offered here is an exceptional and highly sought-after example of the legendary Patek Philippe reference 530, cased in 18k yellow gold with the rare and desirable “wide lugs” configuration. Measuring 36.5mm in diameter, the 530 was Patek Philippe’s largest chronograph of the era, and remains one of the most iconic vintage chronographs ever produced. This particular watch features a beautiful two-tone dial with a silver tachymeter scale, applied Arabic numerals at 12 and 6 o’clock, and elegant feuille (leaf) hands for the hours and minutes. The chronograph hands — both the central seconds and the 30-minute counter — are crafted in blued steel, offering a striking contrast and perfect legibility. Powering the watch is the esteemed Patek Philippe caliber 13’’’ — a hand-wound chronograph movement equipped with a column wheel and horizontal clutch. Known for its reliability and beautiful hand-finishing, this movement is considered one of the finest mid-20th century chronograph calibers ever made. According to the Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, this watch was manufactured in 1946 and sold on May 5th, 1947. It remained in the original owner’s family until 2020. The case appears to have been lightly polished in the past, but retains its full proportions, and the hallmarks remain deep and clearly visible on the side of the case — a testament to its careful preservation. The dial displays an even, attractive patina consistent with its age, adding to its vintage charm and authenticity. This reference 530J “wide lugs” is not only a rare find, but a true piece of Patek Philippe chronograph history — combining oversized presence, mechanical excellence, and long-standing provenance.
