The present Vacheron Constantin “Jumbo” manual-winding wristwatch, executed in 18K yellow gold and dating to circa 1960, is a rare and exceptionally well-preserved oversized example of the elegant dress watches produced by the Geneva manufacture during the mid-20th century. The watch features a striking silvered waffle dial, beautifully textured and fitted with applied gold Arabic numerals and vertical baton hour markers. The outer minute track is marked in quarters and punctuated with applied gold dot markers, adding both depth and refinement to the display. The dial is complemented by gold sword hands and a central seconds hand, creating a balanced and highly legible aesthetic characteristic of Vacheron Constantin’s classical designs of the period. Housed in a refined 37.5 mm yellow-gold case—considered an oversized “Jumbo” format for its time—the watch also features elegant hooded lugs, further enhancing its distinctive mid-century character. The case is numbered 319XXX and remains in very attractive overall condition. At its heart beats the Vacheron Constantin calibre P454/5B, a finely finished manual-winding movement with 17 jewels, decorated with fausses-côtes finishing and bearing movement number 492XXX. Known for its reliability and refined construction, this calibre reflects the high standards of Geneva watchmaking during the period. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap paired with its original Vacheron Constantin 18K yellow-gold pin buckle. It is accompanied by Vacheron Constantin service papers from 2021, confirming a movement service, new crown installation, and polishing, ensuring excellent mechanical performance.
