Heuer
Autavia 3646 Andretti from 1972

REF: 3646

CHF 10'000 .-

The Heuer Autavia reference 3646 is one of the most celebrated chronographs produced by Heuer, closely associated with the golden era of motorsport. Worn by racing legend Mario Andretti, this early “reverse panda” Autavia became forever linked with his name and remains one of the most desirable vintage Heuer models for collectors today. This example, dating to 1972, is preserved in very honest and original condition. The stainless steel screw-back case appears never to have been polished, retaining its original proportions, and shows only light marks and small dings consistent with careful use. The black tachymeter bezel is in good overall condition, with light scratches typical for its age. The dial is superb: a glossy black base with contrasting white registers in the classic “reverse panda” layout. The tritium hour markers have aged evenly to a warm tone, perfectly matched by the hands, save for a small loss of tritium on the hour hand. The white sub-registers are remarkably clean and well defined. The caseback is engraved C.31.5.72, and inside beats the hand-wound Valjoux 92 chronograph movement, freshly inspected by our watchmaker and confirmed to be in excellent working condition. A historically important chronograph, the Autavia 3646 “Andretti” combines strong motorsport provenance, timeless design, and mechanical reliability. With its unpolished case, well-preserved dial, and full originality, this watch represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire one of the most iconic and collectible vintage Heuer chronographs of the 1960s–70s.
