This exceptional piece began life as a Rolex Daytona 116528 in solid yellow gold and was later transformed by Artisans de Genève as part of their highly exclusive “John Player Special” Tribute project, inspired by the legendary vintage Daytona reference 6241 JPS. Produced in a limited edition of just 26 pieces, this reimagining pays homage to one of the most iconic and collectible vintage Daytonas ever made. The transformation reflects the spirit of the original 6241, with the crown guards carefully removed to give the case a vintage silhouette, and the original screw-down pushers replaced by polished pump pushers. The sapphire crystal has been replaced with domed plexiglass, the bezel is now in black bakelite-style material, and the dial has been entirely reworked in black and gold to echo the unmistakable John Player Special aesthetic. This example, delivered in 2018, comes with its complete original set and remains in superb condition. A striking and faithful reinterpretation of a historic reference, brought to life by one of the most respected independent ateliers in the world of high-end watch customization.
